Brief Bio of the Speaker

Biao Wu is a Boya Professor of Physics at the International Center for Quantum Materials at Peking University. He received his B.S. in 1992 from Beijing Normal University, M.S. in 1995 from University of Chinese Academy of Sciences in China, and Ph.D. in Physics in 2001 from the University of Texas at Austin in USA. He was a postdoc associate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, USA before joining the Institute of Physics of Chinese Academy of Sciences. He moved to the current position in 2010. His current research focuses on quantum computing and quantum dynamics.

Abstract

Quantum computing indicates that physics can not only influence the speed of logical gates but also provide faster algorithms. In this talk, I will show how we explore the intimate relation by designing quantum algorithm with physics and proposing computing models that are beyond the standard quantum computer.  My focus will be on our quantum algorithm for maximum independent set and the model of Lorentz quantum computer.
