Over sixty people took part in the 2nd FUDAN-USTC-NJU (FUN) Workshop on Frontiers of Condensed Matter Physics organized by International Center for Quantum Design of Functional Materials during April 27-28 in Hefei, Anhui.

Academician Dinyu Xing from Nanjing University was invited to give the welcoming speech. Prof. Xing applauded the organizer’s effort to promote synergy between theory and experiment. He wished the audience a fruitful discussion in the 2nd FUN workshop.

Fourteen scholars from these three universities have reported their current work in topological insulators, grapheme, spin hall effect etc. on the theme of “Dirac electron systems & beyond”. These talks sparked great interest among participants and were followed by vibrant Q/A sessions.

ICQD co director Prof. Zhenyu Zhang stressed the goal of the FUN workshop: to promote synergy between theory and experiment and achieve original results. He also highlighted the initiative of the three universities in the way of pushing forward the condensed matter physics research in southern China. Meanwhile, Prof. Zhang encouraged the students to think and develop new thoughts, to challenge themselves through participating the FUN workshop series.
